To sign students up for free vaccination, parents or guardians should fill out consent forms and return them to school by Oct. 25. Public schools will distribute consent forms early in October.

Nearly 600,000 vaccinations have been given at more than 300 public, private and charter schools to prevent flu outbreaks since the program began in 2007.

About 35,000 public school students in Hawaii are expected to be vaccinated this year.
